Allowing Swollen Gums To Progress To Periodontal Disease

It is very disgusting waking up one morning having painful puffy gums. Swollen gums may occur even with proper oral hygiene practice. There are several factors that causes gums to swell and the most common are when food particles stuck in between the gum line and plaque.

Plaque are formed from bacteria that produces acids which are responsible for gum inflammation. Bacteria are formed from food particles left in the mouth. At the first sign of swollen gums, it shouldn’t be neglected for it can progress to periodontal disease and can lead to the development of certain medical conditions such as heart attack and stroke as the most common. Simple swollen gums can be prevented through proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Regular brushing and flossing after meals is recommended to keep bacteria away from building inside the mouth.
